This is a home we landscaped last year - and the customer wanted to keep the momentum going with a fresh mulch installation. That's the thing about good landscaping. Once the bones are in place, maintaining it year after year is what really makes it shine.
We came back in and topped off the beds with a rich, dark mulch that makes every plant pop. The contrast against the stone exterior and green shrubs is sharp. Clean bed lines were cut throughout, giving the entire front yard a finished, intentional look. No ragged edges, no mulch spilling onto the lawn - just tight, defined borders that frame the beds exactly the way they should be.
The stone accents placed throughout the beds do a lot of work here. They add texture and visual weight without requiring any maintenance. Combined with the variety of plants - including the columnar evergreen, low-growing shrubs, and the Japanese maple tucked to the side - the overall design has layers. It doesn't look flat or generic. It looks like someone actually thought it through.
That's what we try to do with every landscape design and install we take on. We're not just throwing mulch down and calling it a day. We're thinking about how the bed edging ties into the lawn, how the stone accents anchor the planting areas, and how the whole thing reads from the street. A little attention to those details goes a long way for curb appeal.
Keeping up with a landscape after the initial install doesn't have to be complicated. A fresh layer of mulch, some clean edges, and a quick check on plant health can completely reset how a home looks from the outside. This Shawnee home is a solid example of what that kind of upkeep can do.
